Major development planned near Jacques Cartier Bridge

Montreal is getting another major new neighborhood redevelopment, this one near the Jacques Cartier Bridge.

Real-estate company Bertone Development Corp. unveiled plans Friday for a $500-million “multi-purpose living environment” called Quais de Lorimier, planned for the area bounded by De Lorimier, Ste-Catherine, Parthenais and René-Lévesque Sts., near the Papineau métro station. It will include a residential tower and townhouses, commercial and office space, a hotel and a winter ice rink.

“Our dream of creating a significant urban project for Montreal, under development for several years, is finally taking shape,” said company co-founders Michael and Claudio Bertone in a statement.

Construction is due to begin next year, with the first phase finished in 2019. Promoters said the project, which still needs municipal approval, will contribute to the revival of Montreal’s Centre-Sud district.
